What this job involves

Floodwater that has been outside is not the same problem as a burst pipe. It arrives carrying soil, sewage, fuel, fertiliser and whatever else it crossed on the way in, so it is handled as a health hazard from the moment we arrive.

What we are usually called out to

  • Storm and atmospheric-river flooding
  • Creek, river and canal overflow
  • Flash flooding and debris flow after wildfire
  • Street and storm-drain backup
  • Sewage-contaminated water entering the building
  • Mudline and silt deposits through ground-floor rooms

Why speed matters here

Every hour the water stays, it moves further into material that cannot be dried in place. Past roughly 48 hours mold begins to colonize damp organic material, and the work changes from drying to remediation — which costs considerably more and takes longer. Calling at 2am genuinely produces a better outcome than calling at 9am.

How we handle it

The same four stages every time, in this order.

  1. Contain before extracting

Contaminated water is isolated from clean parts of the building with sheeting and negative air, so pumping does not spread it further.

  2. Remove water, silt and porous material

Trash pumps handle water with solids in it. Porous material that absorbed contaminated water — pad, insulation, particle board — is removed and documented.

  3. Clean and disinfect the structure

Framing, slab and remaining surfaces are cleaned, then treated with an antimicrobial appropriate to the contamination found.

  4. Dry and verify

Structural drying runs with HEPA filtration in place, and we do not sign off until moisture readings and air quality both come back acceptable.

What we bring

The equipment that arrives is matched to what the readings show, not to a standard van load.

  • Trash and solids-handling pumps
  • Negative air machines and containment
  • HEPA air scrubbers
  • Antimicrobial and disinfectant application
  • Personal protective equipment for category three water
  • Structural drying equipment
