What this job involves

A basement is the lowest point in the building, so it collects water from every failure above it and from the ground around it. It is also the hardest space to dry, because there is little airflow and the water sits against concrete that releases moisture back for weeks.

What we are usually called out to

  • Sump-pump failure or power loss during a storm
  • Groundwater seepage through foundation walls and floor joints
  • Sewer backup through floor drains
  • Burst pipes on the floors above draining downward
  • Failed French drains and window-well flooding
  • Water heater and furnace condensate failures

Why speed matters here

Every hour the water stays, it moves further into material that cannot be dried in place. Past roughly 48 hours mold begins to colonize damp organic material, and the work changes from drying to remediation — which costs considerably more and takes longer. Calling at 2am genuinely produces a better outcome than calling at 9am.

How we handle it

The same four stages every time, in this order.

  1. Make the space safe

Standing water in a basement usually sits near electrical panels, furnaces and water heaters. We confirm power is isolated before anyone enters the water.

  2. Pump the volume out

Submersible pumps move the bulk water. For sewer backups we treat the water as contaminated and contain the area before pumping.

  3. Remove what cannot be dried

Saturated carpet pad, cardboard storage and the lower few inches of drywall usually have to go. We cut to a clean line and document everything removed.

  4. Dry the concrete and framing

Concrete and masonry hold water far longer than framing. Dehumidifiers run until slab and wall readings are stable, not just until surfaces feel dry.

What we bring

The equipment that arrives is matched to what the readings show, not to a standard van load.

  • Submersible and trash pumps
  • Truck-mounted extraction
  • Low-grain refrigerant dehumidifiers
  • Air scrubbers with HEPA filtration
  • Concrete moisture probes
  • Containment sheeting and negative air machines
